NMO-Industry Exchange Forum (for selected audience only)
National Mapping Organisation (NMO) is the primary custodian and driver of geospatial industry in any country. Most NMOs (especially in developing world) have their own set of legacy and conservative approach causing inadequate response to fulfil growing need of geospatial information in those countries. Though most developing countries are beginning to adopt more liberal economic policies leading to better business environment, yet due to inadequate response from national mapping agencies to provide the foundation data, geospatial industry is still struggling to find its due place in these economies. Similarly in many countries this industry is not mature enough to deal with the growing demand of geospatial content. These conditions have proven to be detrimental to expansion and growth of geospatial industry. Therefore, Geospatial World Forum proposes to organise 'NMO-Industry Exchange Forum' to deliberate upon concerns, issues, opportunities and challenges of each stakeholder of this domain to find out some common grounds and strategies in order to help each other and contribute to the overall growth of geospatial industry.

The Forum will include:

Representation from:
  • Heads of 30 NMOs - 5 each from South America, Africa, Middle East, Asia and Europe and 1 each from Canada, United States, Australia and New Zealand
  • About 50 industry representatives
  • Professional societies like GSDI, ISPRS, FIG, OGC, ICA, UNRCC, and
  • Academic Institutions of repute like ITC, University of Hannover, and University of California etc
Presentations on:
  • Overview of current status and future requirements/plans with regard to mapping and associated policies and capacities by Heads of NMO
  • Models of engagement and participation by geospatial industry representatives
  • Perspective and suggestions by industry on developing PPP model to modernise NMOs
  • Sharing of case studies and success stories by the developed NMOs of the world

Proceedings of the meeting shall be well documented and outcome shall be published as a special volume in one of the editions of GIS Development magazine.

Please Note: There is a seperate registration fee for NMO - Industry Exchange Forum
