Department of Rural Development and Land Reform, South Africa
Almost ninety years ago the then Chief Directorate: Surveys and Mapping and now the Chief Directorate: National Geo-Spatial Information, as South Africa's national mapping organization, commenced with the establishment of an integrated survey system and provision of extensive mapping coverage of the country. The integrated survey system expedites and facilitates orderly development while the mapping and associated products facilitate sustainable development. In more recent years, The Chief Directorate established an active control survey network of GPS base stations named TrigNet. Furthermore, the Chief Directorate has an archive of aerial photography dating back to 1937 and photographic coverage of the entire country is updated on a continuous basis. The Chief Directorate not only distributes this information but also conducts practical training programmes in spatial information. Together these products and services are contributing to the achievement of the South Africa's full potential and to the fulfilment of the country's comprehensive rural development strategy.
IBEG, Brasil
The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics - IBGE, under the Ministry of Planning, Budget and Management was established in 1936 and is governed by Law No. 5878 of May 11, 1973, which defines its status. Its mission is to portray Brazil, with necessary information to the knowledge of its reality and the exercise of citizenship, through the production, analysis, research and dissemination of statistical information - demographic and socio-economic and geoscience - geographic, cartographic, geodetic and environment. NSDI
NSDI is the National Spatial Data Infrastructure for India. It is headed by a Chief Executive Officer and has affiliation of 17 Nodal Agencies who are major contributors to NSDI development. NSDI has developed and maintained standard digital collection of spatial data by bringing in standardisation to the total process of format conversion, access and inter-operability. NSDI also produced and maintains the India Geo-Portal that hosts OGC compliant metadata on the web which is helpful in planning for development activities of the nation as such. It works towards sensitising governmental agencies for increasing the awareness of the importance of metadata which is published on India Geo-Portal. The Geo-Portal includes OGC compliant Web-services: WMS,WRS,CS-W. It will facilitate nodal agencies to uplink their metadata, Product-catalogue and other services through an SSO 128 bit encryption based secured communication.
